FlipSide guide 07/19/12: Theatre Under the Trees, Preserving York picnic, Dawes returns to area

FlipSide file; A dress rehearsal of William Shakespeare’s comedy “Much Ado About Nothing” presented for DreamWright’s 2011 Theatre Under the Trees series.

Festivals:
– The first Take My Hand Summer Fest is noon to 8 p.m. at Penn Park in York. It will include live music, poetry, art and more. [Free]
Mount Hopes annual Blues and Brews event has two sessions: Noon to 3 p.m. or 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Mount Hope Estate and Winery near Manheim. [$49.95 for adults; discounts for kids]
– About a dozen breweries will be represented at Dauphin County Brewfest 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Fort Hunter Park in Harrisburg. [$35 in advance; $50 at the door; $15 for designated drivers]
– Come see what a 19th-century base ball (yes, it used to be two words) match was like during the final day of the Vintage Base Ball Festival, at 8:30 a.m. Sunday at Hickory Hollow Horse Farm, 301 Crooked Creek Road, Gettysburg. [Free]

Music:
King of Surf Guitar, aka Dick Dale, performs 7 p.m. Friday at Appalachian Brewing Co., 50 N. Cameron St., Harrisburg. [$25 in advance, $28 at the door]
– See Grammy-winning country artist Randy Travis 8 p.m. Saturday at Hershey Theatre, 15 East Caracas Ave., Hershey. [$45, $65 and $95]
– Didn’t think you could get to see Dawes this summer, since the band’s May 31 show in York sold out? See the band 7:30 p.m. Sunday the Long’s Park Summer Concert Series at Long’s Park, 1441 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster. [Free]
– Attend the bluegrass jam session 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Indian Steps Museum in Airville. [Free; donations accepted]

Shakespeare:
– DreamWrights’ Theatre Under the Trees presents “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” Friday, Saturday and Sunday at a different regional park each evening. [Free]
– The People’s Shakespeare Project presents “The Tragedy of Julius Caesar” as part of Millersville University’s 2012 Four Corners Summer Arts Festival. Check out outdoor performances 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at The Swan Pond on campus, 1 S. George St., Millersville. [Free]
Try to put on your own play.

Movies:
– As if you could forget, “The Dark Knight Rises” hits movie theaters tonight. See the Batmobile at Frank Theatres 3 to 5 p.m. today.
– See a drive-in movie as “Cars 2″ screens Friday and Saturday night at the Antique Auto Museum, 161 Museum Drive, Hershey. Parking opens at 7 p.m. [$15]

– Get your garden and nutrition questions answered this weekend during York County Penn State Extension Day 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Brown’s Orchards and Farm Market near Loganville.
– Find fresh eats during The Buy Fresh, Buy Local York County Scavenger Hunt. Pick up a guide map, get it stamped at local food stops and turn it in by Aug. 11 for the chance to get coupons and prizes.
– Head to the Preserving York Fundraising Picnic to benefit The Farm & Natural Lands Trust and Friends of Camp Security noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Historic Shady Lane, 475 Shady Lane, East Manchester Township. [$10 donation; free for kids 12 and younger]
– Celebrate Christmas in July this weekend and next week.
